There are 16 court cards in a Tarot deck. Each of the four suits features a set of four: a King, a Queen, a Knight or Prince and a Page or Princess.
They represent the people around us, like family members or a person we meet along the way. They can be friends and foes, colleges, acquaintances or chance encounters. In a Tarot reading, a court card often indicates someone who is relevant to our issue.
Kings mature, experienced males
Queens mature, experienced females
Knights / Princes young, inexperienced males
Pages / Princesses young, inexperienced females
Their suit can give us information about their personality type:
Wand people act on impulse and express themselves in a fiery, passionate, sometimes argumentative way. They fight for freedom.
A cup personality is empathetic, caring and kind, but can be overly sensitive and brooding. They are motivated by emotional security.
Sword people are good communicators, can jump to conclusions and are quick to make decisions. They are movers and shakers.
Pentacle people are hard working, goal oriented and have a practical approach to life. Their physical security is paramount.
A court card can also sometimes represent an aspect of our own personality, indicating how we behave, act or react in a situation.
