Scorpius Latin for 'Scorpion'. Before the discovery of Pluto, which is now considered to be Scorpio's ruling planet, it was the domicile of Mars. In the body, Scorpio is associated with the genitals.

The symbols for Scorpio are the scorpion, the eagle, the serpent and the phoenix. The latter being a bird in Egyptian mythology that at the end of it's life-cycle consumes itself by fire and from it's ashes a new, young phoenix arises - symbolising Scorpio's association with rebirth and resurrection, regeneration,  survival and life-after-death.

There are many different sides to the astrological Scorpio, but the ones that are most often given attention to are those that are hard to perceive, the enigmatic and occult. Therefore it could be understandable that some people tend to guard themselves when they hear someone was born under this rather ambiguous sign. Of course, there are equally as many others who feel an attraction just because. Scorpio does not seem to help the situation, actually to the contrary - always enjoying a good show, Scorpio prefers to remain behind a smoke screen. More inclined to disguise what is really going on, creating a special and secretive air and avoiding transparency where possible - Scorpio is often misunderstood.

As you were born under this most mysterious  sign, you appreciate any scheme, conspiracy, plot or drama – whether it's in a novel, play, movie or in real life - anything that is clandestine or hidden appeals to you. You are a master of strategy and no matter what your day job is, at heart you are  Sherlock Holmes or Miss Marple reincarnate. You would make a fine detective, spy, investigator or researcher. On the surface you may seem to lead a normal, ordinary life just like everyone else, but it is quiet possible that you have a hobby, hidden interest or involvement that not everyone knows about.

There are  times when it could seem to others hat you blow things out of proportion, making mountains out of mole hills –  but with your curiosity for life and intense nature you are compelled to go beyond the obvious and dig beneath the surface, so the most common circumstances can take on an air of secrecy and the daily grind becomes an industrious undertaking.

Diplomacy is not one of your stronger points. Believing in the principle of unadulterated truthfulness, you are prone to express your ideas and sentiments in a dogmatic manner. You would rather stay silent than present a lukewarm version of your honest opinion.

Scorpio is strongly related to sex and procreation and there is an enormous emotional force behind your romantic pursuits, providing you with that special aura of charisma and allure. You can be hot and cold and have a strong sense of loyalty which, when misunderstood, could lead to unhealthy attachments with power struggles, manipulation, jealousy and possessiveness.

Since you have an extended memory when it comes to past hurts you can hold a grudge for years. You might forgive, but you never forget and when you really feel betrayed, you can patiently wait for a very long time until an opportunity arises to  settle the scores. Holding on too much to the past can turn you into your own worst enemy, jeopardising the very essence of your signs fabric - the continuation and progress of life.

With such intensity and depth in heart and soul, it is not surprising that the one thing Scorpio needs to master, is to loosen up. To rise above a challenge is easier when we can take ourselves lightly.

When you chill out and cultivate your devil-may-care attitude, your outrageously comical side comes through. With a wicked sense for practical jokes, you know how to provoke more than just laughter. And a Scorpio knows how to make one laugh with such sinister delight, that it is an experience to be remembered long after the belly muscles have stopped aching.

You never treat anything in a superficial manner. Whatever you get involved in, you go deeper than what is apparent or obvious, usually right to the bottom of it. Pluto, the modern ruler of your sign was named after the god of the underworld in Roman mythology. It is an all-powerful force, reaching far beyond the personal and individual, eluding anyone's control or command.

Because your quest is one of change, transformation and renewal of the self, throughout your whole life you battle with strong emotions and desires which are to be tamed only by the exemplary skill of your creative spirit and your iron will.
